Embroidery and Linen Bags

I’m continuing my embroidery obsession, as you can see below.  The next two photos are of a tote bag I am making for myself.  I cut out pieces of fabric from the yellow floral vintage sheet featured in this post.  I looked at the big flowers and decided they needed some filling in, so I did some laidwork latticework embroidery.  It was quite fun and relaxing!  It also helps hold the layers of padding and fabric together so the bag sides won’t shift around.  As you can see, I also outlined the flower petals with chain stitching.  I’ll post a photo once I finish the bag (could be awhile – this is one of those slow projects I pick up periodically).

The following three photos are of bohemian style linen bags I finished and listed for sale in my online shop.  Of course I love the latticework embroidery on the green one, and I loved doing the couched diamond design on the coral and the pink ones.  I find that diamond couching made the padded bags feel sturdier, too.  As always, the linen is upcycled fabric, as is the cotton for the linings.

    1. Nan, thank you!! I’ve been slowly picking away at some other creations as life permits, and I hope to do another post in January. I haven’t forgotten about catching up with you via e-mail – hope to do that in January if not before! I’ve loved reading your painting posts, too. I’m so glad you are getting to do it now!
