New Pillowcases and Past Creations

I created some pillowcases out of my collected upcycled vintage floral sheet and thrifted gingham and striped fabrics! I made two for our home, and two for a wedding gift.  I made each one out of three different fabrics, I embroidered some of the edges, I used French seams on the sides, and I used a flat-felled seam to join the two top fabrics (and hid the backside of all the embroidery strips!).  I was pretty pleased with how these turned out!!  (photos aren’t great; but I have a new camera now, so future photos should be a lot better)

The next set of photos represents some toys I made a few years ago.  I crocheted the cupcakes for my daughter.  I crocheted the multi-coloured blocks and knit the multi-coloured ball for my twin niece and nephew.  My sister tells me my four-year old niece still carries the ball around with her.  That makes me happy.  😀

And these are two hats I made for the twins.  (My sister has next requested some sunhats for them, so that will be another fun project to do!!)

The following items are some projects I made for myself.  The first was a mixed media woven bead necklace.  I don’t have it anymore, but it was fun to weave the beads, add the decorated shell, and sew a “chain” for the bead pendant.

Below is a knit “sunglasses sleeve” that I invented.  I slip it on over the sunglasses to prevent them from scratches. And the other item is a crocheted shawl.  A friend had given me some shiny purple cotton yarn, and I finally found a fancy pattern that would suit the yarn.  It was a “join as you go” crochet project, and I enjoyed the process.

And these last photos are of projects I did for a 50th anniversary party.  I made the BEST chocolate cake and covered it with white and yellow icing (I know it was good, because so many people complimented me, haha!).  I also made a banner from file folders.  I designed each letter and flower myself, used them to make stencils, and painted gold around the stencils.  And I designed the card myself.  I like geometry, so I thought it would be fun to work with squares and circles in a grid.

As you can see, I like to dabble in various craft skills and mediums.  I would be bored if I couldn’t keep trying new things!  But this I do know – I love working with fabric, yarn, and paper.

What do you think of the pillowcases?  I am thinking making several of these for sale.
